Feikes Huis is the new Dutch national production house for puppetry and object theatre. The Ostade theatre in Amsterdam constitutes both the stage and the haven for the presentations provided by Feikes Huis. The production house falls under the artistic direction of Eliane Attinger.
Feikes Huis directs its efforts at puppetry and object theatre, supporting development of quality and content throughout the discipline and its active producers. The objective is to establish a lasting foundation for the genre, and improved positioning of the theatre sector as a whole. The production house operates autonomously from any particular form or tradition of puppetry and object theatre. In this branch, form always follows function - instead of the other way around.
Feikes Huis has been allocated the task of providing guidance to young talents, and to actively establish connections between puppetry and object theatre and other theatre forms.
Activities include: - guiding producers on bringing about their shows - organising the JK Academy in which young producers arrive at their own brief creations by means of research on stage - organising workshops in which producers (puppeteers, designers, directors, writers) from the puppetry and object theatre field exchange expertise with producers from other performing arts - organising workshops where experienced puppetry and object theatre producers transfer their knowledge onto new generations - organising expeditions to foreign festivals, allowing young producers to gain a perspective of international trends and lines of development, and to establish contacts
In addition, Feikes Huis is currently working on development of a curriculum for the field of puppetry and object theatre on behalf of and in cooperation with HBO-level professional arts education.
Feikes Huis is subsidised by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
