DORP / HET VERHAAL VAN EEN UITZICHT

 

 

 

Ten years ago, Annelies van Hullebusch left the village where she was born. Now, she re- constructs the story of her departure, set around a large scale model of cardboard cottages and miniature streetlamps.

 

Drawing inspiration from Geert Mak's 'Jorwerd' and 'Under Milk Wood' by Dylan Thomas, Van Hullebusch uses multiple perspectives to explain what makes people leave 'their vil- lage'. "In a literal sense, her memories are constructed, furnished, and then refurnished, as she is unable to truly separate herself from her village. All of this is wrapped in an at- mosphere of familiar melancholy. Instead of wiping our tears away, we smile quietly." (Tuur Devens, Theatermaggezien)

 

DORP/het verhaal van een uitzicht

A village where people greet one another with a 'joew'.

A village of fields covered by strawberry plants.

A village where everyone has a name, and a past.

Do sit down on the hill for a while.

The sun will rise.

You will become a piece of village.

And then you will leave the village too.

A village arises before the eyes of the audience.

Models made of cardboard, wood, or rags tell their

tales, supplemented by a booklet. An autobiographic

narrative plunging into the depths of imagination.
